Shawn Nyman (SEIU Local 925)

Shawn Nyman was sworn in as Vice President of the Cowlitz Wahkiakum Central Labor Council in January 2022. Shawn previously held the position of President of the CLC from 2015 – 2019.
Shawn was a rank-and-file SEIU Local 925 member as a paraeducator for the Longview School District and was secretary of their union chapter. In 2012, she became an Organizer/Representative for SEIU and remains a proud dues paying member of Local 925. Shawn is also a member of the Pacific Northwest Staff Union. Within months of starting at 925, she was sent to Michigan to support workers in their fight against Right to Work legislation. Seeing tens of thousands union members fighting for their rights stuck with her. From that experience, she recognized also that being educated on politics with regard to worker rights is imperative and assists the CLC with that work.
Shawn represents classified K-12 members in seven southwest Washington school districts, supporting them in workplace actions, labor-management, grievances, and bargaining. The Longview chapter was the first in Local 925 to go on strike, led by chapter leaders and supported by local unions. Her best days are when she sees union members recognizing their power in the work place and standing up for themselves and other workers.
In her down time, Shawn loves spending time with her adult children and two grandchildren, Grace and Atom.
