As the La Center Teachers strike enters its second week, the Cowlitz - Wahkiakum Central Labor Council is standing in solidarity with these educators. In a letter sent to La Center School District Superintendent Peter Rosenkranz and other District officials, CLC President Terry Carlson makes our Labor community's disappointment with how the District is treating its workforce clear.

"The students in your District deserve a superintendent and school board that models respect and promotes worker dignity," Carlson said in the letter, "and your actions showcase the opposite."

As inflation in our area continues to rise, the District is refusing to pay La Center educators the full cost of living adjustment (or COLA) the Washington State Legislature has called for and funded.  The La Center Education Association isn't asking for more money than the legislature has given the District for this COLA - they're asking for comparable wages to other districts in the area so quality teachers can be attracted and retained to teach the next generation of La Center residents.

Please join us in standing with these educators.  Follow them on their Facebook page for updates on the strike, and join them at their picket line at Holley Park (1000 E 4th St, La Center, WA 98629 - click here for a map) between 7:15 AM and 2:00 PM. Let's show them that our Labor community supports these educators in their fight for a fair contract.
