Students Learn About The Benefits Of Apprenticeship At Kelso High School
On May 11th 2023 more than fifty high school juniors and seniors gathered in the Kelso High School library for a "Lunch and Learn" session with representatives of area building trades unions. The event, organized by the Longview Kelso Building and Construction Trades Council and the Kelso High School Career and Technical Education Department, focused on introducing the students to a career in the trades and the benefits of apprenticeship.
"We have a long history of partnership with KHS, but this particular event was new and specifically set up for students," said LKBCTC President Mike Bridges. "We had hands on activities - including a virtual welder provided by Iron Workers 29."
Because of the hands-on nature of the event students had the opportunity to get a "feel" for the trades they were considering joining, and they made valuable connections with people working in those fields.
